MJP (Mike Petraglia): Music

The Race

(MJP)
Back in the 80's is was laid off from Harrisons and doing some solo acoustic work to survive when I got to know another guy who was doing the same thing. He had a daughter less than a year old just like Deb and I and for some reason his head got a little too big and he walked out on his wife and kid. It's what inspired the idea behind this song
The Race

Crossing to this side of town felt like any other day in June
Staring into shadow in the sun lit afternoon
Wondering how tomorows becomes yesterday so soon

He was sitting all alone
Didn't look like he had a home

He had blisters on his fingers, Rickenbacker in a case
Snap shot of a family he'd left without a trace
He said I'm going down to Nashville gonna get back in the race

He had the answeres in his head
He had a blanket for a bed

I smiled and said my time is up I will stop by again
He thanked me for the JD without lifting up his head
And I knew I whould remember him though I don't think much was said

Something bout hunger
Something bout pain
Something bout living
Alone again

Staring into shadows
Staring into shadows
